The Real Problem This Solves
Small business owners and freelancers constantly mix up GST-inclusive and exclusive pricing, and under-charge or over-pay as a result.
Get it wrong on an invoice and you eat the tax yourself. This calculator removes the guesswork both ways.
Inclusive vs Exclusive, Settled
Exclusive (adding GST): GST = base × rate%. Inclusive (extracting GST): base = total ÷ (1 + rate%).
Example: Rahul, a freelance designer, quotes ₹10,000 for a project. Adding 18% GST, he invoices ₹11,800 (₹900 CGST + ₹900 SGST). If a client instead pays ₹11,800 "all inclusive," the GST hidden inside is ₹1,800 and his actual fee is ₹10,000.
| Base Amount | GST Rate | GST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹10,000 | 5% | ₹500 | ₹10,500 |
| ₹10,000 | 18% | ₹1,800 | ₹11,800 |
| ₹10,000 | 28% | ₹2,800 | ₹12,800 |
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between CGST and SGST?
For sales within the same state, GST is split equally: CGST goes to the Central government and SGST to the State. For inter-state sales, a single IGST applies instead.
How do I remove GST from a total price?
Divide the total by (1 + rate/100). For an 18% inclusive price of ₹11,800, the base is ₹10,000. Our calculator does this automatically.
